Description
Detailed, close-up view of baby carrier (Daim Nyias, Dlaim Hlaab Nyas) centerpiece. The dark blue batik fabric in the background features x's (tus cim caiv), seeds (noob), and mountain (roob) motifs. Red fabric appliquéd on the batik features 6 x's bordered by fence (laj kab) motifs, all outlined by mountain motifs. The central design is bordered by rows of white, red, yellow, and black appliqué. The symbols depicted reinforce protection from evil spirits for the baby. Handwritten inscription on mat board beneath photograph reads, "Baby carrier center, dyed, appliquéd[sic] / Design 9." Date derived from corresponding prints. Numbering on verso inconsistent. Notes on verso read: ""HMO: [handwritten black ink, upper left verso]; "HMong Baby Carrier #12 (Photo 12), Lewis Judy, *HMO.4059.00* Fall 2002 [printed label, upper left verso]" Numbering on verso inconsistent.
