Photograph was edited for publication purposes Designed by Peter K. Schabarum, the Art Deco Valley Municipal Building, located at 14410 Sylvan Street, was completed in 1932 and is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. Photograph caption dated May 24, 1963 reads, "Sun Valley women protested that cesspools are a menace and inconvenience." The article partially reads, "Ten women picketed Van Nuys City Hall for four hours Tuesday in a demand for immediate installation of sewers in a Sun Valley housing tract...A woman on crutches, Mrs. Anne Runyon, 8438 Nagle Ave., was among the pickets. She said she injured her leg after slipping in front of her house where sewage had overflowed onto the sidewalk."
