Description
Photograph of a drawing by Edward Vischer of Dona Marcelina Felix de Dominguez' celebrated grapevine at Montecito, made originally on May 1, 1865, and redrawn in 1871 from recollection, the original having been lost. The owner of the vine, here represented in the foreground, surrounded by her family, died in Santa Barbara May 9, 1865 (a week only after the original sketch was made), at the age of nearly 105 years. She was the widow of Jose Maria Dominguez. The vine traced its origin to a slip brought by her from the vineyard at the Mission of San Antonio. It helped sustain her large family for many years.
