Description
Provides background about Executive Order 9066, the mass removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans, the Civil Liberties Act of 1988, and the Sacramento City Council's adoption of Resolution 1943-207; describes the service of over 33,000 Nisei in the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and the Military Service during World War II; and traces events leading to a re-evaluation to the incarcerations, concluding with its resolution for repeal of Resolution 1943-207.
The Japanese American Archival Collection documents the people, places, and daily life of Japanese Americans, primarily those who lived in the once thriving community of pre-war Florin in the Sacramento region, as well as the conditions in American incarceration camps during World War II. The approximately 7,000 original items include personal and official letters, photographs, diaries, arts and crafts, newsletters, textiles, camps artifacts, yearbooks and other publications.
