Photograph caption dated March 3, 1949 reads, "Clouds of smoke darken the sky over the Air Reduction Pacific Corporation plant in Vernon following an explosion which swept the plant and set 1000 acetylene tanks on fire today. One of the acetylene tank (arrow) hit the roof of an adjoining building. There was no early report of casualties."
