Description
In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. B, leaf 48. 1989-1180. At the bottom of the photo is the widow's walk at the top of the Capitol Building with statuary visible; from there one can see across the street 1 1/2 city blocks with one-, two-and three-storey homes as well as vacant lots; trees line the street on the Capitol side of the street;about center of the photo is the steeple of a church; structures and occasional vacant lots fill the photo to the horizon. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "In the picture, the following buildings can be seen: Old Brothers College, cor 12th & Kay street, erected in 1876...German Luthern Church, directly in back, erected in 1873...Old Pheonix Mill, 13th & Jay street, erected in 1881...Old Sacramento Grammar School, erected in 1872....."
