Description
Photograph of launch of an early guided Navy missile, ca.1960. At center, a large darkly-colored missile with a lightly-colored underside is seen moving from left to right. Its body is near cylindrical, except for the beak which appears long and slender. On the side of the missile, near the beak, an emblem in the shape of a star is visible. Near the tail, the word "NAVY" can be seen. A long darkly-colored cylindrical launching rocket motor is visible attached to the underside of the missile, and a large plume of fire is seen emitting from the motor. In the background to the left of the plane, a small metal ramp and clouds of smoke can be seen. To the right, a small vehicle sitting on a dirt road is visible. In the extreme background, utility poles and vegetation can be seen. Original title read, "Launch of a Navy jet, ca.1960".
