“Leonard Njagi after passing his primary exam, went to training at Machakos as school teacher.” Portrait of a young man. In 1947 Chogoria produced twenty two candidates for teacher training and in the same year training colleges were opened in Meru and Embu, closer to Chogoria than Machakos which is situated Southeast of Nairobi. ❧ The image is from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the period from 1947-1961 at the Chogoria mission which was established near Mt Kenya, in 1922, and run by Dr Irvine.
