Description
This August 28, 1932 photograph shows part of a fire that devastated portions of the River Lines docks and facilities. The estimated damages topped $500,000. The fire also claimed a River Lines fleet of eight freighters, two barges, and one tug. In addition, three private boats, one owned by the federal government, and several houseboats were lost. All of the craft were unoccupied. To compensate for the losses, River Lines was forced to bring in boats from points throughout the Sacramento River Delta, including Stockton and San Francisco.
