Photograph caption dated December 25, 1981 reads, "A Los Angeles firefighter attempts to put out a blaze that erupted after three cars collided on the Santa Monica Freeway yesterday afternoon near Cattaraugus. Two people who were involved in the accident were briefly treated at Brotman Memorial Hospital and released, authorities said. However the cars were not as lucky and authorities said two of the automobiles suffered major damage. Two engine companies and one rescue unit were summoned to the West Los Angeles scene. The cause of the accident is under investigation."
