Description
Note: Als Nr. 15 publiziert im Album 'Achtzig Ansichten von der Goldküste (Westafrika) nach Originalaufnahmen des Missionars Fritz Ramseyer', Neuenburg 1895. (RI) - Ramseyer neg 14. Photo 1880-81. (T. Garrard). - Repro von Photopositiv, Bildlegende z. T. lesbar: "Maison missionnaire à Akropong. Personnages: Mme Eisenschmid, Mr. Eisenschmid, Mr. Schöller, Mr. Schmidt." Note translation: Published as no 15 in the album 'Achtzig Ansichten von der Goldküste (Westafrika) nach Originalaufnahmen des Missionars Fritz Ramseyer', Neuchâtel 1895. (RI). - Caption in album: "The mission house in Akropong, 12 hours from the coast, is situated on the Akwapim ridge. This station was founded in 1843, has expanded considerably in the last thirty years and has become the centre of our schools. We have a boys' boarding school, a secondary school and a teachers' and preachers' seminary." (PST). - Ramseyer neg 14. Photo 1880-81. (TG). - Reproduction of photo, caption partly readable: "Maison missionnaire à Akropong. Personnages: Mme Eisenschmid, Mr. Eisenschmid, Mr. Schöller, Mr. Schmidt." - We need to be careful about dating this photograph to 1880-1. If we call it a Ramseyer photograph it much earlier than any other documented Ramseyer photograph. My guess is that Ramseyer took it over, but that it comes from an earlier unknown photographer. NB it is not clear how we identified it as dating to 1880-1. It is presumably because of the named missionaries (PJ 03.2001). .
