Originally named Boulder Dam, it was renamed Hoover Dam in 1946. This picture was taken of the Colorado River near Black Rock Canyon where one person stands on the shore in deep sand. Across the river is a black lava formation. Taken in the 1920's or 30's in the vicinity of the future site of Hoover Dam.
