Description
This one-room school in the Yerba Buena area of Malibu is at the west end of the Santa Monica Mountains just below Boney Mountain. Percy and Rose's three daugthers--Violet, Thelma, and Mildred--attended this school in the mid-1920s. It is unknown who is in the front of the school. The girls rode their horses to the school. Percy and Rose owned the Circle X Ranch with a partner who was Donald Crist, the actor in many of the older movies. The Circle X Ranch was not far from the school. In the mid-1940s, at the Circle X home, there was a gas leak in the home, and Percy quickly moved the family out of the house. There was an explosion, but no one was hurt. Later, Percy moved his family on to the Mesa Ranch, which was located at the end of Decker School Road. He was a caretaker. The girls rode their horses from the Mesa Ranch down the hill to Decker School, also a single room school. Decker School is only a few yards from Decker Canyon Road.
