Description
In Gakko shaken / "School examinations" two girls dressed in kimono study from a traditional thread bound volume. In the ocular scene, three school teachers dressed in double breasted black suits stand near a table in a Western style classroom where a young girl in a plaid dress receives her diploma and her fellow students sit primly on wooden benches. The use of receding perspective lines gives the lantern slide image a strongly Western look, while the gradations of color seem more familiar from the Japanese woodblock tradition.
