Photograph caption dated August 16, 1948 reads, "Neighbors' shrine to McGroarty - Situated atop Mount McGroarty is simple cross to 'San Ysidro,' patron of little homes. It was erected there by neighbors of poet as protection from reoccurance of brush fire which destroyed his original Tujunga home shortly after completion.
