Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Title supplied by cataloger.; Image is a reproduction. A portrait of Garabed in an orphanage in Greece. His parents died in the 1915 march of Der-El-Zor and he was sent to Greece. He later went to Jerusalem where he studied and became a teacher. He graduated from the American University of Beirut with honors.
