Photograph was edited for publication purposes The Calamigos Star C Ranch was founded by J. Grant and Helen Gerson in 1947. The 120-acre ranch was built to resemble a town in the Old West, holding overnight summer camp and later switching to day camp. The teen-age Beauty Farm was opened in 1961. The "farm" functioned as a health club, charm school, and summer camp all rolled into one. The ranch is now used for weddings, conferences, corporate picnics and movie and TV shoots, and is operated by the Gerson's grandsons, Garrett and Garner Gerson. Photograph caption dated August 17, 1963 reads "Sharon happily notes loss of weight." The article partially reads "Forty five minutes from the heart of the Valley, halfway between Ventura Blvd. and the Pacific Ocean, is one of the West's exclusive resort spots for female teenagers--the Teen-age Beauty Farm. 'This is a beauty farm for girls with weight problems, skin problems and for those who want to learn poise and the social graces,' said Mrs. J.
