Description
Vāhalkada/Ayaka (frontispiece), on the eastern side of the Kantaka Cētiya, which is the best preserved of four, which are considered to be among the oldest preserved sculptures on the island. The vāhalkada is of brick, with the lower portion of the front side faced with limestone. This stūpa is one of the oldest in Sri Lanka, but had been buried for centuries, until restored in the 1930s.
