Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Her family immigrated to the United States in 1970 from Alexandria, Egypt because her father wanted to pursue higher education in the States. Sahar and her family first arrived and lived in New York City for over a decade and then later came to Southern California in 1981. She has self-published several books for children focusing on Islamic culture and stories Sahar Abdel-Aziz and her twin sister celebrate their birthday with a lunch cruise on the "Pride of Los Angeles" with family members.
