Description
Photograph of blossoms from California orange groves, ca.1930. The remainder of a blossom of the orange tree protrudes from the end of a branch at center coated in dark, curling leaves. Blossoms can be seen behind it on the right with small, lightly-colored petals, but this flower is now just "tiny swellings" at the center of a group of leaves. Photoprint reads: "After the fruit has 'set' the petals drop off, leaving the pistil with a tiny enlargement at the bottom. The pistil soon drops, leaving the swelling at the base which grows into a full-sized orange".
