Description
After growing up in Australia, Colin Higgins attended Stanford, pursued an acting career and spent some time in the U.S. Army before earning his MFA at UCLA. While in school, he created the characters of Harold and Maude that would go on to become the titular characters in the classic 1971 film. He later wrote and directed the films Foul Play (1978), Nine to Five (1980) and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982). He died in 1988 of AIDS related illness at age 47 and left behind a foundation to further his mission of helping LGBTQ youth. In this recording from 1979, he discusses his background, schooling at Stanford, UCLA, his military service and his iconic first screenplay.
