Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph caption dated July 4, 1963 reads, "Fireworks, with their universal appeal for both young and old, will be the main attraction at Independence Day celebrations throughout the Southland today. While most Fourth of July holiday activities are centered around parades, picnics, band concerts, selection of beauty queens and commemorative ceremonies, it's the appearance of the colorful, noisy, scene-stealers - the fireworks displays - that never fail to capture everyone's fancy. Fireworks had their beginning in the 17th century and reached a highly developed stage by the 18th century when Louis XV of France witnessed lavish displays in his honor at Paris." Photograph caption reads, "Skies over Los Angeles Coliseum will sparkle with color during fireworks display."
