Description
Photograph of two riverboats docked at Stockton, [s.d.]. Two docked riverboats occupy the middleground of the image, a chain linking them together. The left boat bears the text "Aurora" while the right boat reads "Port of Stockton. San Francisco". The bow of the left boat is visible, showing two decks and a two-story upper cabin. The left boat's stern is shown, revealing its paddle wheel, along with its three decks and upper cabin. The visible side of the left boat bears lifeboats. The foreground of the photograph is filled by rippling water, while unidentifiable buildings are just able to be seen in the background. Thousands of miners passed through the Stockton channel, as it was the supply point for most of the southern mines of the Mother Lode. These riverboats are reminiscent of river travel of the 1850's. Picture file card reads "river boats tied up at Stockton, creating a picturesque reminder of river travel of the 1850s.
