Description
Memorial plaque, Iveagh Drive, West Belfast. Plaque commemorating the death of Angela Gallagher, 'Dedicated to the Memory of Angela Gallagher who was Killed near this Spot 3rd September 1971 Aged 17 months. Jesus, Friend of Children, Bless the Children of the Whole World. "May you Stop Here to Remember the Innocents Amid the Tragedy of Conflict."' Angela Gallagher was shot while in a pram during an IRA sniper attack on a British Army Foot Patrol, 3rd September 1971. On 6 September 2007 the IRA released a statement admitting that one of its members fired the shot which ricocheted off a wall and struck the child and apologised to the family. The plaque was unveiled a few days later.
