Description
Site of the original San Jose Airport circa 1958, before it was sold to Branden Enterprises and turned into Tropicana Village. Located at 821 King Road, the airport was one of the pioneer "air mail airports" of the Pacific Coast, established in November 1929 by Newton Orr. It was used by Pacific Air Transport in the early years, and as a training post by the U.S. government during World War II. It was purchased in 1946 by a group led by H. A. Barnick who operated the "Gee Bee Aero Service." This airport on King Road was not part of the San Jose Municipal Airport located at Spring and Newhall.
