Description
Photograph shows a large tally sheet pinned to a wall. It is probably for the YWCA's 10 day building campaign started on June 2, 1914 and it runs the length of the wall shown in the photograph. The heading on the sheet reads: "Every day counts we count on you." The next line reads: "Executive committee. Womens. Mrs. John Richards. Young womens. Miss Florence Clayton. Citizens. Mr. Chas. Snyder. Young Mens. Dr. Bullitt. Business girls. M[rs]. J.W. Nixon. Normal. Washburn School. High School. Total." The far left column has dates that range from June 3, (1914?) to June 12, (1914?) and the following columns are filled with monetary amounts collected on those days by different groups. On June 2, 1914, the Y.W.C.A. of San Jose started their 10 day building campaign with a goal to raise $100,000. They raised $105,310 which was used to build a three story building. It was opened on May 12, 1916 and was San Jose's first community and recreation center for women. From: Smith, p. 25-27. An annex was added onto the existing building. It opened in December 1926. From: Smith, p. 40-42. 1914-06 Scanned with Microtek Scanmaker 1000XL Pro; as a 600 dpi TIFF image in 24-bit RGB color. Auto Level image processing applied and compressed into JPEG format using Photoshop CS3.
