Description
Peter, whose father and maternal grandparents immigrated to the US from Italy, was raised in Fairfax and then San Francisco, returning to Fairfax in 1949. In this interview, Peter speaks about his family's involvement in the restaurant business (New Joe's in North Beach), his extended Italian family, Catholic education, College of Marin athletics, and his enlistment in the Coast Guard. After serving on the Fairfax Department of Parks and Recreation and the City Council, Peter was Mayor of Fairfax from 1966-1967, and served two terms on the Board of Supervisors, from 1968-1976. Peter later sat on the Board of the Golden Gate Bridge, was a trustee of the then-new Marin Community Foundation, sat on the board of the Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT), and was the General Manager of the Marin Builders Exchange. Peter touches on the community of Italian-Americans in Fairfax, memories of Pastori's resort, his family's roots in Fairfax and San Francisco, and his world travels.
