Chanya M. Blumenkrantz was born in 1960 and lived in Kenya before coming to the United States in 1995. In 1994, she went to Wales to study while her husband moved with their children to Los Angeles. A year later, she joined them in L.A. She later became chief development officer for MEND (Meet Each Need with Dignity), a non-profit providing support for those in need.
Chanya Blumenekrantz' s great aunt Chanya (left), whom Chanya is named after, is pictured with her daughter, Eunice, who is holding Chanya's daughter, Inosi, in Mbale Village in the Taita-Taveta district in Kenya in 1990. Inosi is wearing a Kanga, a long, multi-purpose, East African cotton cloth woven with a mix colors, designs and messages that is special in the cultural history of Kenya and Tanzania. Photograph taken by Chaya's husband, David Blumenkrantz.
