Description
Annotation translation: "No. 48 of 69: 'The King's soul'." - "Kumase".
Annotation: "Nr. 48 in 69: 'L' Ame du Roi'." - "Kumase."
Identity of photographer questionable.
Note translation: Contradictory data: in (D-30-0,1) Abetifi is given as place and Ramseyer as photographer by TG (1988). According to the older writing however Missionary Piton is the photographer. (PST). - "This photograph is an excellent 'studio' portrait of a young man who was a member of the royal akradwarefo. He is wearing his insignia of office, the akrafokommu, a 'large circle of gold suspended from the neck'. The subject is deliberately posed against a background which shows red ochre bas-relief to very good effect." (McCaskie, 1975). - NB Piton was a China missionary who seems to have had some photographs from other parts of the world which were eventually handed over to the archive (PJ 04.2001).
