Photograph was edited for publication purposes Ernest Von Neschke of Studio City is a 61-year-old merry-go-round and carnival painter who thinks the Salvation Army is a 'wonderful organization that helps other people.' If he were to phrase it in biblical terms, he might say they are pure in heart. Von Neschke paints merry-go-rounds for money and paints marine oils for pleasure. But for the Salvation Army - for the pure in heart - he's painting a wall-sized portrait of Jesus Christ at the time of the Sermon on the Mount, when He spoke the words in praise of the pure in heart.
