Description
Title supplied by cataloger.
Photograph caption reads: "U.S. government took control of American S&L's assets yesterday". American Savings and Loan Association, shown here on Hill Street, has been a virtual ward of the federal government since 1984 with repeated runs on deposits and a mounting load of soured loans that brought one of the nation's largest financial institutions to the brink of failure. Photograph dated: Sept. 7, 1988.
