Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Title supplied by cataloger.; Image is a reproduction. Chanya M. Blumenkrantz was born in 1960 and lived in Kenya before coming to the United States in 1995. In 1994, she went to Wales to study while her husband moved with their children to Los Angeles. A year later, she joined them in L.A. She later became chief development officer for MEND (Meet Each Need with Dignity), a non-profit providing support for those in need.
