Presidential candidate of the National Unity Front (FUN), Ángel Aníbal Guevara speaks to a crowd of people at a campaign rally in March, 1982. He is holding his hands up in the air and looking into the sky. Seated beside Guevara is his running mate Ramiro Ponce Monroy. On March 8, 1982 he won the presidential election although electoral fraud was claimed by other parties. A military coup prevented Guevara from assuming power and installed a three-man junta headed by General Efraín Ríos Montt.
