Description
Photographic portrait of aviator Arch Hoxsey lifted on his colleague's shoulders at the Dominguez Hill Air Meet, December 31, 1910. Hoxsey, dressed in his aviator's jacket, goggles and cap, is hoisted on his fellows' shoulders after his world-record flight of 11,474 feet. Two men bear him on their shoulders while two more flank him to either side, one wearing a striped beanie, the other a suit and hat. They are separated by a metal fence from the bleachers full of spectators behind them. Hoxsey later lost his life at the meet attempting to further break the altitude record.
