Photograph was edited for publication purposes Los Angeles Airways, founded in 1944, invented the term 'heliport' and was the first company to receive authority to carry mail by helicopter as well as passengers. Photograph caption dated March 17, 1956 reads, "Small patch of ground at right is Burbank heliport-vital link between mail trucks and waiting transcontinental aircraft and at far away international airport.
