Photograph shows boxer Ruben "The Maravilla Kid" Navarro, knelt in prayer before a round. Navarro, now 23, was only 13 when he made his debut in a boys' club in Maraville, a poverty stricken area in East Los Angeles. As an amateur, his only loss was in the semifinals of the 1964 Olympic trials. At 20, Navarro became a pro and has been knocked out only three times since. In his career, he's won 85 of 86 amateur fights, and has a professional record of 21-2-2 and is rated the No.1 junior lightweight contender. Photograph dated May 12, 1970.
