Photograph caption dated August 30, 1948 reads, "Sleek and powerful, one of the 400-mile-an-hour bombers of the 62d Wing streaks homeward after flying a mission far at sea in summer maneuvers of the Air National Guard. Latest Air Force planes, including Lockheed F-80 jets, are based at Valley fields protecting Los Angeles."
