Description
Shown is a 1968 postcard with a photograph of the intersection of J and Fifteenth Streets in downtown Sacramento. Visible in the photograph is the Mexican restaurant Rancho Grande and Saint Paul's Episcopal Church. The photograph also includes both the Elks Tower (right) and the California Western States Life Insurance Building (left), further down J Street. The Cal-West building was erected in 1925 and was the tallest building in Sacramento until the Elks Tower was erected a year later in 1926. Both buildings are Sacramento's first skyscrapers.
