Description
Barker Brothers Department Store located in Downtown Los Angels on the corner of 7th Street and Figueroa Street. In the background, right between the Signal Oil and Barker Brothers buildings, the Martz Flats can be seen on the southeast corner of Flower & 7th Streets. Streetscape. Horizontal photography.
The original title and description read, "Barker Brothers Department Store located in Hollywood near Grauman's Chinese Theatre between Highland Avenue and La Brea Avenue". Additional information: The Fine Arts Building, across the street from Barker Brothers, was owned by Signal Oil from 1930 to 1933. The block Barker Brothers stands on (bounded by Flower & Figueroa and 7th and 8th streets) was originally purchased by Robert Stark in 1870 for $450. His daughter Abigail lived there, in the original home Mr. Stark built for his family at 723 South Flower Street, until her death in 1939.
