Description
The second Santa Fe Railway depot, showing a crowd of local residents awaiting the arrival of a special train carrying President William Howard Taft between Los Angeles and San Bernardino. According to the Monrvoia Messenger of October 15, 1909, 2000 people gathered for the one minute visit. The photograph was taken on the south side of the depot, looking east. Across Myrtle Avenue in the distance can be seen the Monrovia packing house of the Duarte-Monrovia Fruit Exchange. This depot was demolished in 1925 and the present Spanish Solonial Revival depot constructed in its place.
