Description
Looking across the river at the Keith Neeley Ranch and Murphy Ranch.
Printed text pasted on reverse: Have you wondered what Guerneville was like back in its busy logging days? Well, this picture will give you some idea: Taken in about 1898 from some hilltop spot above Guernewood Park, it looks across the river at the Keith Neely ranch home. Location of the Jim Neely home is now just about where the cluster of trees stands at the edge of the clearing. Location of the Murphy Ranch is on the left and the Guerne & Murphy mill can be seen just left of center. Still to be found in Guerneville’s landscape is the tall tree standing alone on the hill in this picture, and the I.O.O.F. building, visible just beyond the mill, center.
Handwritten below printed text: Copy from the 1955 publication of “The Guerneville Times”, “A Guide to the Vacation Wonderland” (“The Clifton Family Visit”). Harlan H. Hoyt, Elmer O. Carlson owners & publishers.
