A group of Chinese boys frolic on the beach at Beacon Hill Farm on Sharp Peak. This beach formed a part of a ravine beneath Kathleen Hurd Cottage. In the foreground a boy jumps over a pole held by two other children. The man at left with the hat is the manager of the estate. He is charged with watching the boys. The boys were not allowed on the beach without supervision. Emily Susan Hartwell was an American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions missionary stationed in Foochow, Fukien from 1884.
