Description
The Clarence W. Pierce School of Agriculture is a two-year community college in Woodland Hills, California. It opened in September 1947, with 70 students and 18 faculty members and is part of the Los Angeles Community College District. The school's initial focus was crop cultivation and animal husbandry, and still retains a large swatch of open fields for hands-on working farm training. In 1956 the school was renamed Los Angeles Pierce College.
Photograph caption dated March 10, 1958 reads, "Too young for shears - Kathy Martin, 19, of Van Nuys, left, and Jean Voigt, 20, of Pacoima, hold young Hampshire lambs, not yet old enough to yield wool, while their parents are being clipped. Both girls are animal husbandry students at college. Students from Mount San Antonio Junior College, Ventura Junior College, Orange Coast Junior College and Kellogg unit of California State Polytechnic Institute joined in Pierce's shearing school."; See images #001357802 through #00135806 for all photos in this series.
