Description
Photographic portrait of the staff at the magazine "Out West" (formerly "Land of Sunshine"), Los Angeles, ca.1910. The staff was under the leadership of the editor, Dr. George Wharton James. The room is filled with men and women. Most of the people in the front and around the table are sitting. About two-dozen other people are standing near the wall in the back. The men are dressed in suits and have their hats removed. The women, still wearing their fanciful hats, are dressed in long dresses. A contraption (projector?) sits on top of a podium in front of everyone. A box with vent holes and wires attached to it is sitting on top of a chair behind the podium. The name "Edison" is embossed on the box. Electrical wires and ropes attached to the wooden roof beams hold two light bulbs suspended above the long dining table. The table has several meals laid out. Cups and glasses are sitting in front of their respective drinkers. Several paintings and pictures decorate the room. Graffiti on the wall reads: "od, los, b, V", "Bye, good bye".
