Photograph article dated July 15, 1963 partially reads, "Five talented Valley teenagers are hoping someone will discover them. They have proven their ability, and now they're waiting for an opportunity to break into the entertainment world. A Van Nuys jazz combo made up of five youths hoping for a musical career won top honors recently in the Battle of the Bands at the Hollywood Bowl. The five, calling themselves the Men of Note, won the sweepstakes trophy and first place division honors in the fourth annual contest sponsored by the County Parks and Recreation Department. The quintet is composed of Jim Ackley, 17, North Hollywood; Bruce Bransby, 16, Van Nuys; Bill Richmond, 15, North Hollywood; Tom Scott, 15, Burbank; and Mike Ward, 17, Sherman Oaks."
