Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated February 16, 1963 partially reads, "Sixty-seven of every 100 marriages go on the rocks in California, with 40 per cent of the state's divorces centering in Los Angeles County. The national average is 26 divorces out of 100 marriages. Theses startling figures, issued in Vital Statistics reports for 1960 from the State Department, Sacramento, are facts with which the Very Rev. Edward J. Collins, O.M.I., newly appointed priest of St. Ferdinand's Catholic Church, San Fernando, must work. Considered an authority in his field of pre-marriage and marriage counseling, Father Collins has made some interesting observations concerning the increase in matrimonial failures. 'God, the instigator of marriage, has been left out by many people,' he said. 'Marriage has become a social union which is not a lasting foundation for a successful relationship.'"
