Title supplied by cataloger. St. Raphael is one of seven Archangels who stand before the throne of the Lord, and one of three angels mentioned by name in Scripture. He was sent by God to help Tobit, Tobiah, and Sarah; he is also considered the force behind the healing power of the sheep pool. Raphael (whose name means "God heals"), is sometimes shown (usually on medallions) as standing atop a large fish or holding a caught fish at the end of a line. Among Catholics, he is considered the patron saint of medical workers and matchmakers, and may be petitioned by them or those needing their services. Interior view of St. Raphael Catholic Church located at 942 W. 70th Street. This photo was taken from the center aisle, looking up toward the balcony and stained glass medallion window. Below the balcony, a clock reads "6:19", and exit signs are visible above three doors. St. Raphael Catholic Church, founded in 1925, is located in the heart of South Central Los Angeles at 942 W. 70th Street and Vermont Avenue. Photograph dated: April 2005.
