Description: Men and machines dig into the earth at the intersection of Figueroa and Flower Streets, smoothing a path for the traffic stream. Engineers say the underpass will be ready by Christmas. This photo, looking north, shows progress made on the job. In foreground is Figueroa Street, which will run under Temple Street. The underpass will be a link in the high speed Arroyo Seco highway. Photo dated: August 30, 1939.
