Description
Photograph of a birdseye view of Spring Street and its surrounding area, predominantly featuring the Bank of Italy in the foreground, ca.1931. The photograph appears to be taken from the observation deck of Los Angeles City Hall. The International Building (1907-1955) bearing the name "Bank of Italy international branch" sits in the foreground, and behind it, the winding automobile-lined Spring Street can be seen. A grassy patch of land with a house surrounded by trees is visible at left, while the right hand side of the image is more industrial in composition. Other buildings include: Second Post Office and Federal Building (1910-1937) Third County Jail (1902-circa 1930) First County Hall of Justice (can be seen north of the County Jail) O.W Childs Building (1887-circa 1931) the Lawyers' Block (1886-ca.1930) -- the one in the foreground, at left, that has had its roof removed. Also, see CHS-41540 and CHS-41539.
