Description
Image of a firefighter's membership certificate from the Albany Engine Co. No. 1 of Albany, Oregon, made out in manuscript to Archibald Monteith on June 3, 1875, and surrounded by vignettes of firefighters including a firefighter fighting a fire with a fire hose; a firefighter on a ladder rescuing a young girl; a firefighter with a speaking trumpet standing in a street pointing towards a fire; and an eye-level view of a city street with a burning building and ruins with a steam fire engine, hose carriage, firemen, and utility poles in the foreground; the certificate is bordered by images of fire hydrants, ladders, hoses, and preventers.
"Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1874 by Fred. J. Miller, N.Y. in the Office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington, D.C."--text, bottom center margin. "These are to Certify that Arch. Montieth has been nominated and elected an active member of Albany Engine Co. No. 1. June 3rd.. 1875. Karl V. Brown, President. Joseph Webber, Chief Engineer [?] Secretary. Albany Or February 14" 1876."-text of certificate, printed and handwritten.
